Side By Side Theatre Company Stourbridge, were formed in 1997. The group evolved from the Learning For Life Drama Course at Stourbridge College, but is now independently run by their founder, Susan Wallin and a production team of experienced theatre practitioners, who, along with their support team, give their time voluntarily.

Over the years SBS have achieved many awards for their unique and original performances and have constantly pushed back the boundries and challenged the perception of learning disability.
They have performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival seven times, in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2014 and 2016 each time achieving excellent reviews.

In 2007 they took their production, WORLDS APART to Motala in Sweden. In 2008 they won ' Best Musical On The Fringe', for their production, THE BIRD from ' Fringe Report ' and in 2009 they had 5 star ratings at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for their production of TEMPEST IN A TEA - CUP.

In March 2010 SBS won 5 awards in one weekend at Dudley and Worcestershire Theatre Festivals.

In May 2011 SBS took their production, WHO IS PILGRIM? to perform at the PRAGUE FRINGE FESTIVAL, where they were invited by the British Ambassador to the British Embassy. The season ended with performances at Stourbridge Town Hall June 2011.

Their 2012 production, DREAM ON, based on A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM,was part of the Royal Shakespeare Company's Open Stages Project. The company performed a short extract from the play at the Courtyard Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon on the 18th of March, as part of the RSC OPEN STAGES SHOWCASE. DREAM ON was also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe FestIval in August 2012.

DREAM ON was in partnership with the Oaks Project, who created the set and props and Stourbridge College Music Technology students, composed the music for the production.

 ''PRODIGAL SON, at Stourbridge Town Hall in June 2013 was an allegorical tale of a young man's rejection of his family and his experience of a life of excess and indulgence, encouraged by a personified 'devil' and watched over by an enigmatic 'angel' who tried to steer him back to the unconditional love of his family. 

2012/13 was a very exciting year for SBSTCS. Founder and Artistic Director, Susan Wallin was honoured a Diamond Champion by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall at St James Palace in November 2012, then she was made an MBE by the Queen in February 2013. Then the company were given the highest award for volunteers. They were awarded the Queen's Award For Voluntary Service. The MBE for volunteers.

Our 2014 production was  'ILLYRIA ON SEA', based on Shakespeare's TWELFTH NIGHT. Once again the company were  chosen by the Royal Shakespeare Company to be part of their OPEN STAGES PROJECT for 2014 to 2016, which means that SBS practitioners, technicians and actors attended mentoring sessions and workshops with the RSC

ILLYRIA-ON-SEA was performed at Stourbridge Town Hall  in June and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August. 2014

The last performance of ILLYRIA-ON-SEA, was at the Swan Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, June 14th, 2015 at the RSC Open Stages Show Case.

Our 2015 production was THE TRIAL OF PETER PAN. An extract from this new play was performed at THE DOOR at BIRMINGHAM REP on January, 31st 2015. The main show was at Stourbridge Town Hall Theatre from June 24th to 27th 2015

We performed our 19th production, MYTH IN STORE, at Stourbridge Town Hall, June 22nd to 25th, 2016. In August we took it to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, this was
 our 7th production there.

2017 has been our 20th anniversary, so in June we took the company into 'outer space', with 'WORLDS BEYOND', 21st to 25th June.Several of our members received their LONG SERVICE MEDALS from the NODA National President Michael Hastilow.  After a celebratory get together on July 1st, to thank all of our current and past volunteers, members took part in Stourbridge Carnival the following day and were awarded a BEST PARADE CUP & THE PERCY OAKLEY OVERALL BEST TROPHY. 

Our 2018 production will be AS WE LIKE IT based on Shakespeare's AS YOU LIKE IT. Side by Side continue to be part of the Royal Shakespeare Company's OPEN STAGES PROJECT

SIDE BY SIDE rehearsals take place on:
Mondays 10.00 am to 3.00 pm & Tuesdays 11.15 am to 3.45 pm
at New Road Methodist Church, Stourbridge.
The company are also expanding their provision and now have very thriving sessions of DANCE on  Wednesday mornings from 11.00 am and PERFORMING ARTS on Thursdays 10.00 am to 3.00 pm at Stourbridge Baptist Church.
